Welcome!
We're happy you are interested in learning more about designing and leading a short-term study abroad program. Please read each of our "Developing a Short Term Program" web pages in detail; they contain important information about application instructions and deadlines.
The Center for Global Engagement is proud to boast that we stand out among similar university types for student participation in our short-term programs. This is due, no doubt, to the quality of programs that faculty like you construct for our students every year.
To learn more about what to expect as a program director and duties and responsibilities required for the role, read our Short-term Program Director Guidelines.
We look forward to working with you on designing a program. The world awaits!
Applications for all 2025 program terms will open may 13. Deadline: August 1, 2024
Program Types
We are committed to fostering faculty development opportunities with a global emphasis – including teaching a short-term course abroad. Faculty can lead programs during the following terms:
Spring Break
Summer Sessions
New Program Directors
Program Directors who are new or who plan to offer new programs must schedule a meeting with Angeline McMullin, the Associate Director of Study Abroad, prior to proposing a program.
In this meeting you will discuss location, cirriculum, feasability of program, and other important aspects of your proposed program.
Academic Approval
In further preparation for submitting a proposal, faculty should be in communication with their academic departments and colleges regarding their plans and curriculum. Each program has at least one course on offer, and approval for the course(s) lies solely within academic units and colleges. While an official course approval will be signed by your AUH and College Dean after your overall program proposal as been accepted, you must touch base with your department prior to submitting a proposal and be aware of any internal deadlines as set by departments or colleges.
Proposal Deadlines
Proposals for Winter Session 2025, Spring Break 2025, and Summer Sessions 2025 will open May 13 and are due by August 1, 2024.
Both new and returning Program Directors must submit a completed proposal through Terra Dotta.
To apply, visit our program proposal page for further instructions and the application link.
