The Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) program is a 4 year college curriculum which produces over 70% of the Officers for the Regular Army, the Army Reserves and the Army National Guard. The DUKE BATTALION MISSION is to recruit, develop, train and commission competent and confident warrior leaders of character.

The JMU Army ROTC program is dynamic, exciting and challenging, yet still flexible enough to accommodate your college requirements and schedule. All aspects of a student's environment are addressed including the academic, physical, extracurricular, social and interpersonal.  The 2025 ARMY ROTC National High School Scholarship Program Is Now Accepting Applications.

  • The application window for high seniors will be open until 4 March 2025.  There will be three scholarship boards which will be held on 21 OCT 2024, 27 JAN 2025 and 24 MAR 2025. The deadline to complete the application for each board are 14 OCT, 20 JAN, and 17 MAR.  This means that ALL parts of the application must be complete, including the PMS interview.  If you are interested in applying for the Army ROTC scholarship, Use the link below to create an account and apply for the Army ROTC National High School Scholarship.  The window for applications will close on 4 March 2025.

Air Force ROTC - UVA Detachment 890

Air Force Reserve Officers' Training Corps (AFROTC) at JMU is established under a cross-town agreement with the University of Virginia. JMU students take AFROTC classes at UVA for JMU credit. AFROTC offers students the opportunity to receive US Air Force officer training while completing undergraduate or graduate studies. AFROTC is the largest of three programs available through the Air Force to earn a commission and serve as an officer in the United States Air Force.

AFROTC offers two, three, and four year commissioning programs for students of all levels, graduate or undergrad*.
