To improve safety and reduce traffic volumes, the Bluestone Campus is gated during the weekdays when classes are in session. The gated portion includes Bluestone Drive between South Main Street and Carrier Drive, Duke Drive by The Village and Grace Steet near Madison Union. The Godwin Transit Center is gated 24/7, 365 days per year.
Access to the bookstore is possible from Carrier Drive or by using Bluestone Drive from Port Republic Road. The bookstore can be accessed by entering G Lot by Godwin Hall.
The gates are closed on Mondays – Thursdays from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m., and on Fridays from 7:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Call-in boxes and cameras are situated at the gates on Bluestone Drive to accommodate special needs. Two digital signs are illuminated when the gates are closed: one is located at the campus entrance at Bluestone Drive and South Main and the other is located on Bluestone Drive at Carrier Drive.
Only authorized vehicles are permitted into the gated portion of campus when the gates are closed. These include:
- Emergency vehicles
- Transit buses
- Service vehicles
- Specific vendors
- Individuals requiring accessible parking
