Fall 2023 wellness resources

News

There are so many resources available to support student wellness at JMU. As the Fall semester begins and you settle into a new routine, this is the perfect time to build-in time for the healthy activities, resources, and relationships that help you recharge. Along with classes and assignments, make sure to reserve time for: sleep, physical activity, meals, fun, and time to connect with others.

We hope that this semester you’ll visit the Counseling Center's self-care spaces, the Oasis and Studio, for some drop-in self-care. The Oasis, open M-F 8:30am-4:30pm, offers free relaxation resources including use of massage chairs. In our Studio space, open M-F 10am-2pm, students can enjoy the benefits of artistic creativity. Each of these spaces are free for students to use, simply check in at the Counseling Center front desk with your JAC card (SSC, 3rd Floor, Suite 3100).

Looking for other places on campus to relax and recharge? Check out the Union's Serenity Center (Union/Warren, Room 425), the Interfaith Chapel (Union/Taylor 4th floor), the Airport Lounge (Union/Warren 4th floor), and TDU’s recliner lounge. Visiting the SSC? Take one of the egg chairs for a spin. On East campus? Then, stop by the ENGO (Room 0301) relaxation massage chair space, the Arboretum, or UREC’s 3rd floor meditation room.

Did you know that there are free wellness programs, such as Stressed?, More than Measures, Listen Well, and more offered through Health & Wellness Promotion, currently housed at UREC? Visit UREC’s wellness resource page to learn more and register. While you’re there, check out the upcoming fitness classes and other services available through UREC. And, don’t forget about the nutritional, medical, and physical health support available through the JMU Health Center.

In addition to the Counseling Center and UHC’s services, there are also free telehealth resources available to JMU students through TimelyCare. Learn more, and connect with TimelyCare's: TalkNow - 24/7 on-demand support, scheduled individual counseling, health coaching, and self-care resources through visiting timelycare.com/jmu.

For academic support take advantage of your professor’s office hours, available tutoring or mentoring opportunities if offered within your major, as well as support available through the Learning Centers.
