How do I enroll or get admission for a program?
Persons interested in enrolling in a graduate program at James Madison University must complete the application process. It is recommended applicants get an early start on the application process to allow time secure a student visa for on-campus programs if admission is offered.

Fee waivers are generally not available for international applicants.
When can I enroll?
The term when students can begin their program varies by program. Most programs enroll students in the fall, but some start in the Summer (May or June) and some begin during the Spring (January). Some programs have multiple options, while others begin once each year. Please visit your program’s application requirements page to determine when the program begins.
How do I prove English Language proficiency?
To ensure student success, all students must be proficient in listening, speaking, reading and writing in English. There are several ways to demonstrate your English Language Proficiency. Learn more.
Do I need to submit official transcripts from my previous academic institution?
Yes, but not for your application to be reviewed. You may submit unofficial course-by-course transcripts that are in English. Transcripts in other languages must be translated into English. Additionally, course grades compared to the US academic grading system must be provided. If an offer of admissions is made, official transcripts (and in some cases credential evaluations) will be required before you will be permitted to register for your second semester classes.
Are scholarships available?

Is housing available to graduate students?
Most graduate students live near campus in leased apartments. On campus housing is available to first-year international student but it is limited. Please visit the Housing for Graduate Students webpage for details.
How much does it cost to live in the US?
This will vary by individual lifestyles. In addition to tuition and fees (which vary by program), living expenses are estimated at $16,200 during the academic year (approximately nine months). This includes the cost of housing, food, medical insurance and some personal expenses. If admitted to the program, students will need to demonstrate funds to cover one year of expense.
