Center for Faculty Innovation

As faculty members, we spend a lot of time in the “expert” role: in the classroom, in our scholarly endeavors, and in other academic spaces. It’s a lovely role, but one that also may limit us, by fogging over the joy of learning, our curiosity, our openness to hearing other perspectives and ideas. We are, after all, perpetual learners. How can intellectual humility make us better learners, teachers, collaborators, and humans?

In this Read and Dialogue, join colleagues to discuss this (very brief) article, “How Educators Can Get Comfortable with Intellectual Humility,” and exchange ideas around the benefits, challenges, and opportunities around teaching with intellectual humility.

Program Date: Thursday, 10/26

Time: 12:30-1:45 pm

Location: Online (the Zoom link will be provided the day before the event)

Facilitator: Daisy Breneman, CAL & CFI

Program Outcomes

  • Understanding the benefits of, and barriers to, intellectual humility
  • Applying insights from the article to their own experiences
  • Connecting with other colleagues around the challenges and benefits of intellectual humility
