Center for Faculty Innovation

In this Read & Dialogue, join colleagues to discuss the book chapter, “Women’s Work: Scholarship, Voice, and Resistance in the Academic Generation of Knowledge” and exchange ideas about the voice, agency, and barriers around women’s scholarship. This book chapter is from the book, entitled, “Women in Scholarly Publishing: A Gender Perspective” (Chapter 15, p. 217-229) An e-copy is available for download through JMU libraries.

JMU faculty of all genders, AUHs, and AUPAC members are welcome to share around the following key questions:

  • How does women scholars’ production and dissemination of knowledge intersect with gendered structures or disciplines in higher education?
  • Where do we find the labor and conditions of scholarly publication gendered or perceived as gendered?
  • What experiences or observations have we had around the culture being gendered and/or gendering that impacts career trajectories of women academics?
  • How can we challenge the common deficit-related myths associated with women’s scholarship and imagine an alternative future?

Program Date & Time: Friday, 2/16, from 12 - 1 PM

Location: Online (The Zoom link will be provided either with the email registration confirmation or by email the day before the event.)

Facilitator: Shin Ji Kang, COE & CFI
