If you stepped onto an elevator and encountered a woman in scrubs, would you assume she was a nurse? What if it were a man in scrubs? A doctor?
Unconscious bias is a term that describes the associations we hold outside our conscious awareness and control. We all have it. In this workshop, we will explore ways to identify and counter it to work toward a more inclusive environment.
Participants will:
- Understand what fosters an inclusive environment
- Learn why acknowledging difference is necessary
- Understand how to counter bias in words and actions
- Accept being uncomfortable when first interacting with others across differences
