Location: Wine-Price Building
Description: What does it mean to be a global worker and a true “citizen of the world” today? It goes beyond merely acknowledging cultural differences. In reality, it means you are able to adapt your behavior to conform to new cultural contexts without losing your authentic self in the process. To do so Andy Molinsky, the author of Global Dexterity states that we must recognize and acknowledge the wide array of cultural differences found in the following dimensions:
- Directness
- Enthusiasm
- Assertiveness
- Self-Promotion
- Formality
- Personal Expressiveness
In this workshop series, we will explore these dimensions as they apply to the 11 most represented countries at JMU: China, India, Korea, Vietnam, Nigeria, Kosovo, Mexico, Bangladesh, Rwanda, Kenya, and the United States.
In addition to hearing from international faculty and students’ experiences with these 6 dimensions as they’ve navigated through their time in the United States, international dishes will also be provided in this interactive and engaging session. Come and leave hungry for more!
All workshops will be held from 11:30 AM – 2:30 PM. The schedule is as follows:
- TD2662 September 12, 2025: China and India
- TD2663 October 17, 2025: Korea and Vietnam
- TD2664 January 16, 2026 Nigeria and Kosovo
