JMU rocket scientist, students head to launch
JMU Headlines
Caroline Lubert, a professor of mathematics at James Madison University, researches rocket launch acoustics. She is looking for ways to reduce launch noise, which would improve safety and cut costs of launches. Much of her research takes place at Wallops Island on Virginia's eastern shore, where Antares rockets are launched to the International Space Station. She will be there to gather more data at the next launch, Wednesday, April 17, along with six undergraduates who work in her lab.
Her research alone could make an interesting angle on a story about space flight and how it has changed since the Apollo 11 mission in July 1969. However, Dr. Lubert has a lot of knowledge about rocketry and could be a good source for a variety of angles.
For more on her research, you could check out her article in the winter 2018 edition of Acoustics Today: https://acousticstoday.org/from-sputnik-to-spacex-60-years-of-rocket-launch-acoustics-caroline-p-lubert/
