JMU recognized by the Carnegie Elective Classification for Leadership for Public Purpose
JMU HeadlinesJames Madison University has been recognized by the Carnegie Elective Classification for Leadership for Public Purpose.
JMU is one of 25 institutions to receive this recognition.
The Doerr Institute for New Leaders at Rice University, in partnership with the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the American Council on Education, established the classification, which acknowledges campuses that are intentionally cultivating leadership abilities across students, faculty and staff.
“It is a tremendous honor for James Madison University to receive this prestigious classification, because it demonstrates ‘Being the Change’ in action — a purposeful commitment to instill leadership and leadership education that furthers civil discourse and public good here at JMU and around the world,” said Dr. Margaret F. Sloan, director of JMU’s Strategic Leadership Studies program.
JMU was also recognized for its “excellent alignment among campus mission, culture, leadership, resources, and practices that support dynamic and noteworthy leadership for public purpose,” according to the classification organizations.
JMU will hold the classification until 2030.
