The Forbes Center for the Performing Arts and James Madison University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts are hosting a Food Drive from now through Thursday, December 12, 2024, benefiting the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and the people they work with. Food donations will help to ensure people in need across 25 counties and eight cities in central Virginia have access to enough food each month.

Those interested in joining the cause can drop off their food donations at the Forbes Center in designated bins in the lower lobby adjacent to the Main Box Office or upstairs in the Grand Lobby any time between 9 am to 10 pm, Sunday through Saturday. As a gathering place for the Shenandoah Valley community, we are committed to giving back and providing a place where our audience members, students, faculty, and staff can make donations to benefit those who are struggling with hunger issues. We hope people will give generously during this holiday food drive,“ said Regan Byrne, executive director of the Forbes Center. We encourage all audience members, community supporters, faculty, staff and students to join this critical effort.

The most desirable items include:

  • Proteins, such as canned tuna, salmon or chicken, peanut butter, beans, and canned nuts.
  • Dairy, such as canned, evaporated, or powdered milk are in high demand.
  • Fruits and vegetables including 100% juice in boxes and cans, low- or no-sodium canned vegetables, and fruits in light syrup or fruit juice.
  • Boxed pasta, rice, cereal, canned soups and stews, and macaroni and cheese are always appreciated.
  • Non-food items such as baby food, formula, diapers, feminine products, soaps, and toothbrushes.

Please consider donating non-perishable food and other items needed at the Forbes Center to benefit the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank during our Holiday Food Drive. Together we can raise awareness about hunger in our community and provide access to food for those who need it most.
