Throughout a 60-plus-year career in research and aviation, Stan Jones (’54) remains fascinated by problem solving and the ever-accelerating developments in engineering. “It’s been amazing, quite honestly,” says the 2019 College of Science and Mathematics Alumni Award recipient. “Sometimes I reflect on how different things are for me versus 15 and 20 years ago. What I do now would be unimaginable [then].” Today the MITRE engineer relishes his work on cutting-edge technologies like unmanned aerial vehicles. Now he and his wife, Rosemary, have made a gift commitment to establish scholarships for Honors students studying in his college and the College of Integrated Science and Engineering. “I owe everything that I’ve achieved in my lifetime to education,” Jones said. “We wanted to give someone who has limited opportunities to education as I did an opportunity to achieve what I was able to.”
