(AzerNews) The 3rd International Conference on Mine Action in Baku, themed “Mitigating Environmental Impact of Landmines: Resource Mobilization for Safe and Green Future,” concluded with calls for increased international assistance. Azerbaijan’s Representative Elchin Amirbayov highlighted the severe landmine issue, with 1.5 million mines affecting 12% of the country.
Despite the 2020 ceasefire, new mined zones by Armenia have led to numerous casualties. The conference, co-organized by ANAMA and UNDP, aimed to raise global awareness and mobilize resources for demining. Over 300 representatives from 75 countries participated, discussing sustainable environmental rehabilitation and international partnerships.
