Unexploded Ordnance Kills Four Children in Afghanistan

(AMU) In the Pashtun Kot district of Faryab province, an item of unexploded ordnance (UXO) detonated, killing four children, according to Taliban officials. Shamsuddin Mohammadi, the Taliban’s director of information and culture in Faryab, reported that the incident happened in the village of Dahan Dara. The children, aged six to seven, were playing with the device when it exploded after they struck it with a stone.

The ordnance had been found in a water channel. This tragic event highlights the ongoing danger of UXO in Afghanistan, which continues to claim the lives of dozens of children and injure hundreds more each year.
