(U.S. Embassy in Ukraine) On July 16, the Department donated $5.8 million in new demining equipment to Ukraine’s State Special Transport Service (SSTS) to aid humanitarian demining in areas liberated from Russian forces. Russia’s invasion has littered Ukraine with landmines and unexploded ordnance, threatening civilians and hindering economic recovery. In response, Ukraine has mobilized thousands of new deminers. The equipment donation includes GCS-100 remote-controlled demining machines, armored excavators, vehicles, and personal protective gear.

This follows successful mechanical demining training by Tetra Tech under a U.S.-Canadian initiative, which since October 2022 has trained 1,076 Ukrainian deminers. The U.S. has provided over $182 million for demining in Ukraine since February 2022, facilitating training and equipment for Ukrainian deminers and supporting the deployment of demining teams across nine oblasts. This aid has enabled displaced communities to return home, farmers to resume work, and helped make Ukraine safer.
