(MAG International) On July 25, 2024, the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force and Police Service, in collaboration with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Implementation Agency for Crime and Security (IMPACS) and the Mines Advisory Group (MAG), successfully disposed of two million rounds of small arms ammunition at Camp Omega, Chaguaramas.
Funded by the US State Department and the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, this initiative aims to reduce the risk of unplanned explosions and deter theft by criminal groups. UK High Commissioner Harriet Cross and US Ambassador Candace Bond highlighted the importance of the project for regional stability and security. The initiative is also a tribute to those who lost their lives in past explosions, emphasizing the critical need for safe ammunition disposal. MAG CEO Darren Cormack stressed the significance of the partnership and the impact of US and UK support in enhancing safety across the Caribbean.
