(UNDP) Narmin Mustafayeva, a single mother of two, became a deminer to support her family and contribute to her homeland’s recovery. After separating from her husband, she moved with her children to an IDP settlement. Inspired by the opportunity to make a difference, Narmin applied for a demining job despite the inherent risks and her mother’s initial concerns. Passing the exam and being chosen for the role filled her with pride, especially when she was the first among her group to discover a mine.
This achievement not only shifted the way others viewed her but also gave her a deep sense of purpose. A year into the job, Narmin’s earnings have significantly improved her family’s life, allowing her to purchase a car and ease daily burdens. Her work is driven by a deep desire to restore safety to her homeland and help it flourish once more.
