(Vanguard) Angola remains one of the most mine-contaminated countries, with over 73 million square meters still affected. Initially targeting 2013 to be mine-free, Angola has pushed its deadline to 2028 due to a significant drop in donor funding. Between 2005 and 2017, international financial support for demining efforts fell by 80%, leaving NGOs like HALO Trust, APOPO, Norwegian People’s Aid, and MAG to handle the majority of the work. These organizations also operate in Cambodia, which faces similar struggles, with millions of landmines remaining from its civil war.

Both nations depend heavily on international support to continue their demining efforts. However, since the outbreak of the Ukraine war, international funding and attention have shifted, further complicating their missions. Without renewed donor commitment, demining goals in both countries will remain uncertain, hindering progress toward their long-term stability and safety.
