(Swissinfo) Renowned British photographer Giles Duley has dedicated his career to documenting the human impact of war, with a special focus on landmines and explosive remnants. He is currently speaking at the Ukraine Mine Action Conference in Switzerland, where he highlights the urgent need to address the devastating effects of mines in Ukraine, now the most heavily mined country in the world. Duley’s journey began in Angola and deepened after he lost three limbs to an IED in Afghanistan.

Despite his injuries, he returned to photography and became an advocate for conflict survivors, founding the Legacy of War Foundation. Duley believes Ukraine could set a precedent for global mine action through innovative technologies like drones and robotics, which may revolutionize demining efforts worldwide. His work serves as a reminder that landmines remain a global problem, with far-reaching consequences in countries like Yemen, Laos, and Cambodia.
