(RBC-Ukraine) Ukraine faces the daunting challenge of clearing explosive remnants of war, with over 20% of its land dangerously mined due to ongoing conflict. Agricultural areas are hit particularly hard, impacting both safety and the economy. Switzerland, experienced in humanitarian demining, is providing critical support and recently hosted a demining conference, highlighting Ukraine's urgent need for resources and international cooperation. The event featured Ukrainian officials, who emphasized the National Mine Action Strategy aiming to clear 70% of mined land by 2033, contingent on sustained allied support.
Key contributions were also discussed by innovators like Rovertech, presenting a compact, durable demining rover. Speakers, including Giles Duley, underscored the human impact of landmines, advocating for prompt action to prevent long-term harm. Switzerland has pledged additional funding and resources to aid demining, demonstrating the global community’s commitment to addressing Ukraine’s hazardous, mined landscapes.
