(Khmer Times) Cambodia will host the Fifth Review Conference of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention, titled the "Siem Reap-Angkor Summit on a Mine-Free World," from November 25–29. Over 600 delegates from 80+ countries will assess progress toward eliminating landmines globally. Senior Minister Ly Thuch, representing the Cambodia Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority, will lead discussions focusing on mine clearance, victim assistance, and stockpile destruction.
Cambodia, an early signatory to the 1997 Ottawa Convention, exemplifies how national ownership, international cooperation, and civil society partnerships can advance toward a mine-free world. Delegates from countries like Afghanistan, Colombia, and Ukraine will share updates on mine action and the challenges posed by new contamination in conflict zones. Stockpile destruction remains critical, with over three million mines awaiting disposal. This summit reaffirms Cambodia's commitment to global humanitarian mine action, reflecting its decades-long experience addressing the devastating impact of landmines.
