(Relief Web) Mines Advisory Group publishes a paper on a voluntary multi-donor fund that could transform efforts to support the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention (APMBC). This concept is part of ongoing discussions leading up to the Fifth Review Conference, chaired by Cambodia in Siem Reap-Angkor, November 2024. Over 25 years, the APMBC has saved lives by stigmatizing the use, stockpiling, and transfer of anti-personnel mines. However, significant challenges remain. The fund would address critical gaps, reinforcing progress while focusing on areas requiring urgent action.
By aligning financial resources with the convention’s humanitarian objectives, it offers an opportunity to strengthen global collaboration and improve outcomes for mine-affected communities. The initiative emphasizes both the accomplishments and the need for sustained commitment to achieve a world free from landmines. Guided by core principles and strategic priorities, this fund could bolster international efforts, ensuring the APMBC continues to deliver on its life-saving promise.
