Number of Bomb Disposal Experts in Ukraine Jumps to Over 4,000

(Pravda) Ukraine has made significant progress in mine action, increasing certified operators from 6 to 69 and bomb disposal experts from 1,500 to over 4,000 in just one year. The country now deploys 151 mine action vehicles, a leap from none in 2023. The National Mine Action Strategy prioritizes surveying 129,000 square kilometers of potentially contaminated land—an area larger than Greece or Austria. Ukraine is also leveraging international partnerships, with 50 countries contributing over $1 billion through the Humanitarian Demining Coalition.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal highlights partnerships with Croatia and Cambodia as valuable for expertise sharing. Shmyhal also emphasizes the importance of locally developed clearance vehicles, urging international partners to support Ukrainian manufacturers. Economy Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko shared these developments at the 2nd Ukraine Mine Action Conference, underlining Ukraine’s commitment to boosting equipment and expertise. These efforts aim to enhance both security and economic resilience while testing innovative technologies.
