(Diálogo Americas) The United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) conducted a three-week intermediate-level Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) course for the Peruvian Armed Forces in September 2024. This initiative, part of the Humanitarian Mine Action (HMA) program, aims to build Peruvian capacity for managing explosive hazards, mitigating security risks, and preventing munitions diversion to transnational criminal organizations.

The training involved 18 Peruvian service members from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, focusing on advanced EOD tasks and stockpile management. Supported by the Peruvian Joint Command, U.S. Department of State-funded partners, and the Mines Advisory Group, the program integrates training, doctrine, and equipment worth $450,000. It ensures Peru’s alignment with International Mine Action Standards, enhancing sustainability and regional leadership in explosive ordnance disposal.
