(Tuoitre News) Military forces in Vietnam's Binh Phuoc Province safely retrieved and disposed of a 227 kg (500 lbs) Mk82 bomb found by a farmer in Bu Dang District. The farmer's machinery struck the bomb while excavating an irrigation pond for durian trees, prompting an immediate report to authorities. Responding swiftly, the district military command secured the site and stationed guards to prevent accidents.
The bomb, a wartime remnant from Vietnam’s conflict, was capable of detonating due to its size and condition. Sappers from the provincial military command neutralized it without incident. Bu Dang remains heavily contaminated by unexploded ordnance (UXO) from the war, posing risks to agriculture and daily life. To reduce accidents, local authorities conduct awareness campaigns and encourage residents to report or surrender UXO.
