(Humanity & Inclusion) Humanitarian demining by Humanity & Inclusion (HI) has allowed families like Julio César's to safely return to their ancestral lands in Colombia after decades of conflict. Forced into exile in 1999 due to armed violence, Julio César's family endured years of loss, including the death of his brother in a minefield. In 2023, the family returned to Riochiquito, only to find their land contaminated with landmines.
HI's demining operations cleared the land, enabling the family to rebuild their lives. They’ve since planted 5,500 coffee plants and diversified their crops with beans, manioc, and bananas. Grateful for the safety brought by demining, Julio César dreams of building a prosperous coffee plantation to improve his family’s quality of life and create a lasting legacy in Riochiquito.
