TAG Visits the CoB
College of BusinessOn Wednesday, March 4, the Technology Alumni Group (TAG) visited James Madison University for their annual meeting and classroom visits. Led by TAG president Tom Carr, five TAG members gave presentations in seven different College of Business courses including Introduction to Computer Information Systems, Computing and Telecommunication Networks, and Programming Fundamentals.
“[TAG] was formed in 1999 with a key initiative being involving giving back to JMU in the area of our collective work focus,” said Carr.
According to Carr the classroom presentations include “curriculum subject review with real world examples of how technical innovation can make a difference in the work environment.” The information that the TAG members present not only fits in with the course objectives, but allows the students to get a better understanding of particular technology fields.
“[The TAG visit] was very successful because alumni from the technology community worked together with faculty and students both in the classroom and in regards to key JMU technology initiatives for TAG sponsorship,” said Carr. “This environment always creates a win/win for all involved.”
TAG also gives out a scholarship to a student in CIS or Integrated Science & Technology (ISAT) at least once a year. The recipient of the most recent TAG Scholarship was CIS major Viola Bederak.
The visit concluded with TAG’s Annual Board Meeting, but the College of Business can look forward to another visit with TAG in Fall 2015.
