JMU students at the UTISC Competition - 2019

The JMU Team of Layne Balderson and Peyton Major did a fantastic job representing all Dukes at the University of Toledo Invitational Sales Competition, the nation’s first and only national sales competition dedicated exclusively to the non-senior. Layne, a first-year marketing major, earned second overall in the freshman/sophomore division. When asked about her experience Layne replied, “I had an absolute blast competing this weekend at this fantastic event.” Peyton earned her way through two rounds of the junior division and commented that she felt the team did so well because, “We treated the Winners at the UTISC Competition - 2019preparation like another class. We have been working hard with Dr. Wood and Dr. Derby every week since the beginning of the semester.” Overall, the team placed 11th out of 60 universities, which is quite remarkable since neither JMU student had taken a sales class and were competing with students that have typically had several sales courses. Dr. Wood mentioned, “JMU has competed every year since the inception of UTISC. We do exceptionally well because of the outstanding base the students obtain in their core curriculum as well as the general overall quality of the JMU student.”
