Master of Business Administration

Mert Tokman - 2019

SUMMARY: Dr. Mert Tokman’s commitment to his students and his goal of developing programs in Global Supply Chain Management were factors in his selection for this prestigious award.

Dr. Mert Tokman, Associate Professor of Marketing, was selected as the Kenneth R. Bartee Endowed Professor in the College of Business. Dr. Tokman achieved national eminence in the marketing discipline by researching the integration of customer demand and firm supply. His current research focuses on building and maintaining cooperative inter-organizational relationships along the supply chain, particularly related to value co-creation, resource-advantage and trust-commitment theories.

Additionally, Dr. Tokman was instrumental in the development of a cross-disciplinary Global Supply Chain Management minor between the College of Business and the College of Integrated Sciences and Engineering. In addition to past performance, the selection committee was impressed with Dr. Tokman’s plans to leverage the professorship to:

  • execute an international undergraduate education conference on Global Supply Chain Management;
  • develop and offer stackable certificate programs in Global Supply Chain Management;
  • and enhance the partnership with Antwerp Management School (AMS) to include a fifth-year master’s degree in Global Supply Chain Management.

Dr. Tokman commented, “I am honored to be recognized by the College of Business in this way. As the holder of this endowed professorship, I am responsible for promoting and enhancing the reputation of the College of Business and James Madison University. Given the new vision of the College of Business on continuing relational education through stackable certificates and specialized masters programs, my goal is to become instrumental in the development of such programs in the Supply Chain Management area to lead the way for other disciplines.”

MBA program director Dr. Matt Rutherford shared his appreciation for professor Tokman’s work saying, “We are very fortunate to have Mert involved with our MBA students. Mert has taught in both the Innovation and Information Security MBA programs and co-leads our MBA 695 international trip each year. Our students love working with him because of his expertise in supply chain and new product development and because they know he will go out of his way to help them. My sincere congratulations to him!”
