Photojournalist Caroline Gutman to speak April 14
Media Arts and DesignOne of the award-winning photographers whose work is displayed in the SMAD hallway will talk about her photography and the power of photojournalism during a SMAD Connect event at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 14, in Darcus Johsnson Hall, room G008.
Caroline Gutman — a freelance photographer and writer who works out of Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. — is one of the winners of the 15th Annual Juried Competition of the "Women Photojournalists of Washington." Award-winning photos from that competition are part of the temporary exhibit hanging in the Harrison Hall hallway near the SMAD main office.
Gutman focuses on work that explores gender and economic inequality, as well as climate change, and art and cultural innovation.
Her work has been published in The New York Times, The Washington Post, ProPublica and The Guardian.
She was a Fulbright Fellow in China and was named one of Photoboite's "30 Under 30 Women Photographers," and according to her biography, she is a member of Women Photojournalists of Washington and speaks fluent Mandarin and conversational French, Spanish and German.
