JMU Majors

If you are studying at a community college outside of Virginia, you should be aware of the requirements for your JMU major. Some majors have admission and/or progression standards that must be met before you are fully admitted to the major.

Academic Planning and JMU's General Education Program Requirements

In addition to major course work, all students must complete JMU's core curriculum, General Education. Be sure to read and understand the General Education program requirements. Review these Guidelines for Transferring General Education Courses that may satisfy General Education requirements.

Evaluation of Transfer Credit

Once you are accepted to JMU, courses you have completed as indicated on your college transcript(s) from all colleges or universities you have attended are evaluated on a course-by-course basis according to JMU's Office of the Registrar Transfer Credit Policies based upon guidelines from each academic department. Please Note: The Office of the Registrar is unable to provide preliminary credit evaluations.

Credit is generally accepted for course work if JMU has a similar discipline, department or school. If a student presents a course that is not equivalent to a specific course taught at JMU but is in an available department or school, it may be accepted as elective credit (000).
