Class of 2024

Aarushi chose ISAT because she wanted a major that was more interdisciplinary than traditional STEM fields. “I have always enjoyed areas of STEM, but ISAT let me explore fields and topics that weren't available in other majors. I really appreciated how the applied computing concentration reflected industry trends, so that I felt prepared to go into the workforce.” ISAT has given her the flexibility to be a well-rounded candidate with expertise in multiple fields of study.

She became ISAT Ambassador because she enjoys working with new students and helping them find a path that fits them. “It's very common to switch majors during undergrad, and I wanted to share my experience in doing so, and why I choose to go from a super concentrated major to an interdisciplinary one. I believe many individuals can relate to my experience and I wanted to become a resource for them.”

“I'm a sister of alpha Kappa Delta Phi, an asian-interest sorority on JMU's campus. I'm also involved in Dukes Dil Se which is a Bollywood fusion dance team, and South Asian Student Alliance (SASA).”

In her free time, Aarushi likes to read books, paint, and digital art. “If I'm feeling productive, I try to make it to the gym.” She also enjoys trying out new restaurants and cafes with friends.

How is ISAT preparing you for your future?
“ISAT has educated me in industries that are expected to grow in the upcoming years. By having flexible curriculums, my classes have been able to incorporate current topics and technological developments into my education. This edge has helped me effectively adapt to industry standards and trends.”
Advice for prospective students
“I encourage prospective students to branch out both academically and socially in their first year. Explore the other majors at JMU and get a real understanding of your major and what you'll learn. This will prevent buyer's remorse in the future. Socially, make sure you're taking the chance to meet new people and join new clubs, as you may be busier in the future.”
