Brandon Farrar is a 2012 graduate of JMU with a BA in Modern Foreign Languages (Spanish Concentration) with a minor in Secondary Education and Human Resource Development. He continued his education by participating in the College of Education’s 5 year Masters program, earning a Masters of Arts in Teaching in 2013. While at JMU, Brandon was very active as a Student Ambassador, First Year Orientation Guide, Orientation Peer Advisor, and was a member of both Intervarsity Christian Fellowship and YoungLife. Some of his favorite places on campus included the “all you care to eat” buffet in DHall, the Quad on a Spring day, and the couches in TDU.

After graduating from JMU, Brandon accepted a position in his hometown as a Teacher in Hanover County Public Schools. While working at Lee-Davis High School for six years, he served as a Spanish and Emerging Leaders teacher, World Languages Department Chair, and Assistant Athletic Director. Brandon has demonstrated commitment to providing students with intentional leadership opportunities through his co-founding of the Chick Fil A Leader Academy and Positive Dawgs mentoring group, while also sponsoring the school pep club and pep rallies. He has been nominated as a Hanover Scholars Honored Educator for the past three years, was named 2016 Teacher of the Year at LDHS, and was a finalist for the R.E.B. award for teaching excellence in 2019.

Brandon furthered his education by earning a Masters in Education degree from the University of Virginia with a concentration in Administration and Supervision. He has begun his leadership journey in Hanover County Public Schools serving as a Senior Teacher at Patrick Henry High School beginning in the Fall of 2019. He works on the administrative team with students and teachers in a variety of capacities such as teacher licensure, supervising a variety of departments to enhance instruction, coordinating the School Improvement Plan, and working with students to improve attendance and become more engaged in the school community. Brandon also actively participates in several school and district-level committees including the HCPS Equity Team for teacher professional development, Mental Health Initiatives Task Force, and a county-wide school improvement reform team.  

Brandon continues to stay involved in the JMU community because of the huge impact the school had on his life. He believes that there is no better institution in the world. Go Dukes!
