Donna Honeywell is in her eighteenth year at the Arlington Traditional School, Arlington Public Schools, in Arlington, Virginia where she serves as Assistant Principal. Donna is the wife of Colonel David Honeywell, USAF retired. During his career, the family was at home in several states, Europe and Guam.

Donna was born in Washington, D.C. and raised in nearby Arlington. She is a graduate of James Madison University where she earned a Bachelor's degree, certified to teach secondary English and History. She earned a Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling from Central Michigan University. Advanced graduate studies at Michigan State University, University of Utah, and George Mason University resulted in her qualification in school administration and supervision. In summer 2006 Donna was chosen to attend the Harvard University’s Principals’ Institute.

Donna has taught all grades, kindergarten through grade 12, and adult education. Before Arlington, Donna taught special education, reading, music, language arts and history, and worked as an Elementary School Counselor in a career that has provided opportunities in various school districts in Michigan, Utah, California, Alabama, South Dakota, Guam, Belgium, Nebraska and Virginia.  She has edited publications, won grants, tutored, coached swimming and diving, mentored girl scouts and teacher/counselor/administrator interns. Currently, she serves on the board for the Arlington School Administrators, and is a charter member of the JMU College of Education Executive Advisory Council. She also served on the Board of Directors of the JMU Alumni Association and endowed a scholarship at JMU College of Education. Since 2006 she is a founding sponsor of the Arlington Academy of Hope in Bumwahlukani, Uganda. Throughout her years as a military spouse Donna volunteered in many community activities such as the National Military Family Association, Officers’ Wives’ clubs, Red Cross and Family Services.

Donna’s interests include reading, genealogy, travel and gardening.
