The Health Place puts students in partnerships with community agencies and residents to assess and meet the health needs of area families. “It is not only meeting community needs, it is providing real life experience for students” says Emily Akerson, the recently retired Associate Director for the Institute for Innovation in the Health and Human Services at James Madison University. Each program within the Health Place is an independent entity in and of itself, but they each collaborate with other programs to offer new and innovative services. Some of the most recent programs students have assisted in include, Healthy Families Page County, CART Rural Transportation, P.I.E., Last Chance School Physicals, local Girl Scouts of America, Shenandoah Valley Child Development Clinic, and CHOICES.
