SUMMARY: JMU lacrosse took down Florida, UNC and Boston College to claim the program's first NCAA title.

The third-seeded James Madison lacrosse team outlasted fourth-seeded Boston College, 16-15, to capture the program’s first NCAA Division I National Championship on May 27 at Stony Brook’s LaValle Stadium.

Senior Haley Warden scored four goals in the win and nine over the weekend to be named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Performer. Joining her on the NCAA All-Tournament Team were senior Kristen Gaudian, junior Hanna Haven and redshirt freshman goalkeeper Molly Dougherty.

The Dukes finished the season with a school record for victories at 22-1, including 6-0 against the Atlantic Coast Conference.

JMU’s eight seniors closed out their careers with a combined 61-23 record. They are the third class to win three conference championships and make four consecutive NCAA tournament appearances.

It was JMU’s fourth NCAA Division I National Championship, joining field hockey (1994) and football (2004, 2016).
