COVID-19 Entry Testing Details

JMU News

JMU residential students,

On December 15, we announced the JMU sponsored COVID-19 Entry Testing Program for students living on campus. Upon return to campus, students will be expected to come to the Convocation Center prior to moving into their residence halls. Please note that this test will be at no cost to the student. Students will follow the steps below to reserve their appointment time.

It is essential for all students living on campus to be tested to help us identify any positive cases and help protect students, faculty and staff from COVID-19 infections and slow the spread of the virus. Therefore, any student who does not sign up for and complete entry testing will have their JACard deactivated so they will not be able to access their residence hall, meal plans or UREC until they complete the test.

Students who have previously tested positive for COVID-19 are still required to complete entry testing. Prior COVID-19 infection does not prevent you from becoming infected again and possibly spreading the virus. The one exception is for athletes since they already have a testing program in place. If you are an athlete, please consult with your coach if you have any questions.

If you have permission from the Office of Residence Life to arrive prior to the regular move-in time, you will receive information for early arrival testing.

Signing up for an appointment time at the Convocation Center:

You will choose Jan. 29, 30 or 31 and sign up for a one-hour time slot between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sign up using the steps below.

  • Go to Student.JMUTickets.com to log in to your online student ticket account (this is different from your MyMadison account).
  • If you have not yet registered your online student ticket account, click “Register” and then enter your nine-digit student ID number to activate your account. If you have previously registered your account, enter your log-in credentials to sign in.
  • Once logged in, click the COVID-19 Entry Testing Program option to view available dates and times.
  • Select the date and then select from the drop-down menu which time window you wish to arrive. Please note when you are selecting a time that you will be assigned a specific entrance to use.
  • Add to cart and then follow steps to complete your reservation.

Once you have signed up, you will receive a confirmation email which will include information on travel, Wi-Fi, Navica App, and what to expect. To be best prepared for the test, take a few minutes to view these instructional videos. Modules 1 - 4 and Module 6 are recommended.

If you need assistance scheduling your appointment or if you need to reschedule your appointment, you should call (540) 568-3853 or email athletic-ticket@jmu.edu.

Testing prior to coming to campus:

If you prefer to complete testing before you return to campus, you will need to:

  • Complete a COVID-19 rapid antigen test performed within 24 hours of arrival on campus and be prepared to provide written verification of a negative result.

OR

  • Complete a COVID-19 PCR test within 48 hours of arriving on campus and be prepared to provide written verification of a negative result.
  • You still need to sign up for an appointment through the scheduling system. Upon arriving to campus, please report to the Convocation Center during your appointment time. A staff member will review your written verification at the test site and provide you with documentation if accepted. If your verification is not accepted, it is possible that you will need to test at the Convocation Center.

In the meantime:

We look forward to your return to JMU in the next few weeks and Go Dukes!
