Supporting our community
JMU NewsDear JMU Community,
We are shocked and saddened by the tragedy that took place on the campus of Bridgewater College, our neighboring institution with whom we work closely and share many friendships. In addition, we have faced our own difficult moments at JMU in the loss of friends and colleagues and maintaining our own health and well-being during such challenging times.
In these moments of grief and uncertainty, we, as senior leaders at JMU, are here to support each of you in whatever ways we can.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to our community members who have been impacted by the tragic situations. We are extremely grateful for the individuals in public safety who work to keep our campus safe and are forever appreciative of their efforts.
While there was an increased police presence on our campus as a precaution, at no time was there an immediate or active threat during the incident.
As we work to navigate these challenges together, there are resources available to students, faculty and staff in need of additional support.
If you are in need of additional support please visit the resources below:
- Self-Help resources available through the University Counseling Center
- Online mental health resource
- Crisis Text Line– Text HOME to 741741 to reach a crisis counselor
- Counseling Center’s Emergency Assistance
The best part of JMU is how we are there for each other in both good times and bad, so we hope you will support one another now and always.
With heartfelt thoughts and care,
Jonathan Alger, President
Heather Coltman, Provost
Donna Harper, VP Access and Enrollment
Nick Langridge, VP Advancement
