SUMMARY: Meet On Track's Dynamic Duo: Student Success Communication Coordinators Lily Perkinson and Kayleigh Terry
Kayleigh is wrapping up her second year at James Madison University. Her major is Writing, Rhetoric, and Technical Communications (WRTC) and she is in the honors college. Her journey up from Danville Virginia, where she was born and raised, was because of JMU’s writing program; It focuses on publication and management style of writing instead of just creative, which was exactly what she was looking for.
Outside of academics Kayleigh is involved in the Dancing Dukes and her two part-time jobs: as an employee at the local Harrisonburg daycare, Kid’s Harbor, and as a Student Success Communications Coordinator. Both jobs have been very rewarding to Kayleigh, giving her tools in various fields of work. When Kayleigh isn’t working, she is nose-deep in a book, dancing, or spending quality time with her peers.
In 10 years, Kayleigh hopes to have a chief editor position in a city, however, in the long run, Kayleigh dreams of ending up somewhere rural, as she mentioned “I’ve dreamed of living on a farm since I was little”. Her hopes and aspirations are driving her through school and pushing her to strive for greatness. No doubt as motivated as Kayleigh is, she will end up wherever she chooses.
Lily is a rising junior at James Madison University. She is majoring in the School of Media Arts and Design (SMAD) with a concentration in creative advertising. She was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia. Lily initially enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh after high school but later transferred to JMU due to its proximity to home and because it afforded her a more creative outlet for learning. With her degree, Lily hopes to work for a creative team to make and design commercials to get people’s attention; she specifically wants to work for popular brands such as Cheez-Itz or Oreo to make comedic skits.
To gain work experience Lily took on the position of Student Academic Success and Enrollment Management Coordinator. This job has helped her to branch out into other professions outside of the food industry where she has hosted and served since her sophomore year of high school. Her involvement in this position lent a hand in discovering her passion for her future occupation.
Beyond her educational career, Lily is a member of the Tri Delta sorority. She loves to explore her interest in creative art and writing, she says, “My current passion project is inspired by my friend’s stairwell, it keeps me challenged and engaged in my creative abilities.” Lily has shown immense talent and dedication in everything she chooses to accomplish, without question, Lily will make a valuable asset on any team who chooses to take her on.
