After two decades living in other parts of the world, Dan (’79, ’86M) and Alyce ('79) Nardi returned to the Shenandoah Valley and re-engaged with JMU right away. Dan began first as a STEM adviser and continues as an adjunct chemistry instructor. They established a scholarship for the College of Science and Mathematics and another in Athletics. They were also among the first to invest in the Valley Scholars program when the first cohort of eighth graders began participating back in 2014. Now those promising young people, whom Dan and Alyce encouraged and admired, have begun their freshman year at JMU. They are eager to see these first-generation college students blossom. “They’re going to end up as doctors, lawyers, artists, architects, community services folks, and so much more,” Dan says. “I’m looking forward to hearing their success stories.”
