Applications open for Latinx studies cohort hire
NewsSUMMARY: Following a successful seven-faculty cohort hire in 2020-21, the College of Arts and Letters has opened applications for its second cohort hire: six tenure-track faculty working broadly across Latinx studies in several interconnected areas.
Following a successful seven-faculty cohort hire in 2020-21, the College of Arts and Letters has launched a search for a second cohort of six outstanding, tenure-track faculty who will bring a Latinx focus to writing and media, intersectionality, racial and social justice, citizenship and civic engagement, transnationalism, border studies, social inequality, technical rhetorics, diaspora/migration, health, gender/sexuality, indigeneity, Latinidades, and policy-inflected research.
As a cohort with broadly shared interests, successful candidates will enhance existing strengths in Latin American, Latinx, and Caribbean Studies, global studies, and the humanities and social sciences at large. Three of the seven faculty members who were hired in the 20-21 cohort hire work in Latinx studies, and with this second cohort, the college is poised to expand this important and growing field. JMU has a campus-wide Hispanic Caucus and a large and growing number of Latinx students across all our programs.
“Last year, the College of Arts and Letters was fortunate to hire seven new faculty members in our initial cohort hire, and they are already transforming the university for the better,” said Dean Robert D. Aguirre. “This year's cohort hire will build on this effort, advancing our teaching and research about Latinx culture, a critically important field of study in the humanities, social sciences, and communication arts.”
The new hires will be appointed in the departments of Communication; English; Media Arts and Design; Modern Languages; Sociology; and Writing, Rhetoric and Technical Communication. The start date for each position is August 2022.
Review of applications will begin immediately, but these positions will remain open until filled. To learn more about the cohort hire writ large, about each position, and to apply, please refer to the postings on JMU’s HR recruitment site, JobLink.
