The Assessment, Evaluation, and Research Knowledge Community of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) recognizes Sara Finney as its Excellence in Publication award winner. Finney teaches and advises students in both the Assessment and Measurement PhD program and the Concentration in Quantitative Psychology within the Psychological Sciences MA program at James Madison University.

Finney has authored 90 publications, which have been cited over 13,000 times. Her research focuses on incorporating program theory and implementation fidelity into outcomes assessment, studying test-taking motivation and attitudes during institutional accountability testing, and applying latent variable modeling techniques to better understand the measurement of psychoeducational constructs. She frequently collaborates with graduate students, with 75% of her publications including student co-authors. These collaborations often stem from first-year research projects (Assessment and Measurement), apprenticeship projects (Psychological Sciences), theses, and dissertations.
