Introducing New Teams

You may have noticed that a recent upgrade to the desktop application of Microsoft Teams has been rebranded to Microsoft Teams Classic. This is because in 2023, Microsoft announced its planned released of the New Teams Experience — an upgraded client and user interface that will bring an updated look and feel to the application, as well as new functionality to channels and meetings.

JMU Information Technology has been testing out New Teams for the past several months, and we have recently expanded our pilot group to include Technology Coordinators, who represent many different areas across campus.

IT will be providing this new experience to Microsoft Teams to JMU sometime this spring, but the details of the specific release schedule is still being finalized. Overall, the user experience will not change that much, but you will undoubtedly see improvements to the application with the implementation of these new features.
