Coming soon: Okta Verify to replace Duo

Information Technology-Computing

What is Okta?

Okta is a modern, cloud-based, Identity and Access Management platform that will provide JMU with a single platform for providing electronic IDs, as well as securely providing access to hundreds of JMU applications.

How does Okta affect me?

  • The Okta Verify app will replace Duo as JMU’s solution for multi-factor authentication.
  • Okta Verify will reduce the number of times you will be required to log in to JMU systems.
  • Okta provides a dashboard which will allow you to access several JMU systems from one place.
  • You will only have to change your password once per year.

Who does this affect?

This change will affect anyone who uses JMU systems: employees, students, affiliates, Emeritus faculty, and alumni.

What do I have to do?

JMU users will enroll into Okta Verify in phases during the Fall 2024 and early Spring 2025 semesters. When it is your turn to enroll, you will receive an email from Okta, sent to your JMU email, prompting you to enroll in Okta Verify. You must enroll in Okta Verify to access any JMU system when Okta Verify goes live and replaces Duo as our MFA product.

It is important that you pay careful attention to future communication throughout the Fall semester regarding the Okta migration.

When will Okta Verify go live?

Okta Verify is targeted to go live during Spring Break 2025.
