NewsSUMMARY: Kei Miller, award-winning Jamaican poet and judge of the 2020 Furious Flower Poetry Prize, visited Furious Flower Poetry Center at JMU last week.
Kei Miller, award-winning Jamaican poet and novelist, visited the Furious Flower Poetry Center at James Madison University last Thursday. Miller was the judge of the 2020 Furious Flower Poetry Prize and participated in the Furious Flower Flower Facebook Live Reading Series in 2021.
Miller, who recently moved to the US, said that working with Furious Flower "felt like a kind of an introduction to the poetry world here and the poets of color working here." Working with the Center helped him to see "what another landscape of poetry looks like."
"Being asked to judge the Poetry Prize felt like a kind of wonderful welcome."
While here, Miller led the workshop "Writing the Insufficiently Defined World" Wednesday night in Keezell, participated in an interview with Furious Flower Associate Director, Lauren Alleyne, and participated in the Center for Poetry and Poetics Symposium: Poetry, Place, Displacement at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville Friday evening.
