Get the flu shot before the flu gets you
NewsReady to stay happy and healthy during the upcoming months? The University Health Center wants to help with a Flu Vaccine Clinic! “Influenza is a seasonal illness that typically occurs between October and March,” says Deborah Hoover, the Assistant Director of Nursing. “UHC sponsors the flu clinic because getting vaccinated against the flu has proven to provide the best protection against getting the flu.”
Students and staff can prepare for this clinic in a couple of ways:
- Check the Accepted Insurance list provided by LabCorp to find out if their insurance is accepted.
- If so, sign up for a flu shot at LabCorp’s gateway, WellConnect. Create an account and use the access code: JMU2022. Further instructions can be found in the User Guide.
- Bring their insurance card to their appointment.
- Make sure they have eaten well, are hydrated and feel healthy prior to their appointment.
The clinic will take place on Oct. 25, from 8 a.m to 4 p.m., in SSC 1075. “Space is limited, so we encourage all those interested to register early,” says Hoover. Should a student be unable to attend this flu clinic, UHC wants them to know that the vaccines are also available in the Health Center at a cost of $20. They can make an appointment in the Nurse Clinic to obtain the flu shot. Additionally, it is available at many pharmacies on the JMU bus route around Harrisonburg.
UHC recommends all students and staff receive their flu vaccine. For further questions, please contact UHC. Stay happy and healthy, Dukes!
