The JMU MPA program trains public service professionals and has four concentrations: Public Management, Nonprofit Management, International Stabilization and Recovery Operations, and Individualized Concentration. The program aims at fulfilling anticipated and unanticipated administration needs and therefore, responds to an everchanging public sector landscape. Some of our alumni serve in strategic leadership positions at all levels of government, in Think Tanks, nonprofit organizations and the private sector.

The JMU MPA program is excited to have two program directors, Rob Alexander and Sombo Muzata. The Political Science department and MPA program is thankful to Jennifer Taylor who previously served as the program director.

Muzata said, “I am happy to serve in this role, alongside professor Alexander and excited to continue training current and future generations of public service leaders. This is the best time to get an MPA education for those seeking to advance their public service careers in government and the nonprofit sector, and the JMU MPA program has an excellent track record of alumni serving in the federal, state, and local government and nonprofits across the country.”

Alexander said, “The MPA program is entering an exciting phase that builds upon the work of our previous program directors. Dr. Muzata brings incredible experience with global public administration that will enhance the experience of our growing international student body and will strengthen the learning and growth of our domestic students. I look forward to increasing the stability of our program as we train graduate students to be at the forefront of addressing the complex challenges of 21st century public service.”
