Women for Madison get connected, inspire with tales of giving back

SUMMARY: Dozens of Women for Madison and friends rallied ’round in Portsmouth, Virginia, to hear from special guest Dr. Angela Reddix (’90) at her newest enterprise, the Mustard Seed Place.
On Saturday, May 4, women in every shade of purple showed up for the Women for Madison 2024 Rally in a lively Portsmouth, Virginia neighborhood, home of The Mustard Seed Place. The focus of the 4:00-6:00 p.m. event was an intimate fireside chat with JMU philanthropist Dr. Angela Reddix (’90), entrepreneur, TEDx speaker, author, and founder of the non-profit organization Envision Lead Grow.
Women for Madison EAC chair Dr. Angela Russell (’85) welcomed the crowd before she shared movingly of her positive experiences with Women for Madison and invited others to get involved.
Attendees employed a fun Q-and-A format to get to know each other as part of the afternoon program.
Board of Visitors member and Women for Madison Amethyst Circle Founder Terrie Edwards (’80) (second from right) was one of several JMU VIPs at the Rally.
The halls and walls of The Mustard Seed Place displayed colorful murals proclaiming the power of women.
Dr. Angela Reddix (right) reminisced with Women for Madison Executive Director Cannie Campbell (’95, ’20M) about the people and experiences in her life that led her toward a life of grit, gratitude and giving back.
EAC event co-chair and Amethyst Circle member Barbara Bouldin (’87) (far right) invited her friend and fellow JMU parent Carmen Anthony (in green) to the Rally. Bouldin and Reddix have remained friends since their undergrad days at JMU.
