Scholarship Overview
Established by Thomas H. Arthur to honor Kathleen G. Arthur, PhD by creating The Kathleen G. Arthur Scholarship Endowment for International Study in Art History in Florence, Italy, The scholarship will be administered by the School of Art and Art History via the Art History Scholarship Selection Committee, which will be appointed annually by the area head for Art History. The following considerations shall be taken into account during the scholarship selection process:Eligibility: Undergraduate students majoring in Art History who have achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale) are eligible to apply for the scholarship. Prior to consideration for the scholarship, students must have applied for and been accepted into the James Madison University Semester in Florence Program.
Application Process: Students must submit a copy of their completed Semester in Florence application along with an additional essay describing their interest in and motivation for studying in Florence. Also, students will be expected to present a letter of recommendation from a faculty member.
Selection Process: One or more students will be selected on the basis of their academic achievements, as evidenced by their cumulative grade point average, their essay, and the faculty recommendation.
Scholarship: The scholarship may be awarded for a fall, spring or summer session. In any particular year that more than one student is named to receive this scholarship, the scholarship amount need not be the same for each student who receives this scholarship.
While a student's financial need is intended by the Donor to be a factor in the determination of the student(s) who will receive this scholarship, the Donor directs that the scholarship selection committee shall have discretion to incorporate this factor into their determination process in a manner of the committee's discretion.
